Almost any file type is supported, including:
- PDF documents
- Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx, .xls)
- CSV files
- Word documents (.docx, .doc)
- Text files (.txt)
File Size Limit
Maximum file size is 5MB per document.
Processing Status
After uploading, your document goes through these stages:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Extracting text | Reading content from your document |
| Generating FAQs | Creating FAQs from the extracted content |
| FAQs Generated | Complete - FAQs are ready |
| Error | Something went wrong |
Processing runs in the background. Feel free to close the page and let it run — it should take less than 5 minutes per document.
If You See an Error
- Delete the document
- Try uploading it again
- If it still fails, contact support
If Status is Stuck
If the status doesn't change for a long time (hours), delete the document and try uploading again.
Viewing Generated FAQs
Once processing is complete, FAQs appear in your FAQ table.
To see FAQs from your documents:
- Go to the FAQs page
- Use the Source dropdown to filter by "Documents"
- You can also search by keyword to find specific FAQs
Editing FAQs
To edit a generated FAQ:
- Click the pencil icon on the FAQ row
- The row becomes editable text boxes
- Make your changes
- Click the check icon to save
Deleting FAQs
Select the FAQs you don't want and delete them.
Deleting a Document
When you delete a document, all FAQs generated from that document are also deleted.
This is useful when you need to update information:
- You uploaded a policies document
- Your policies changed
- Delete the old document (removes all old FAQs)
- Upload the new document (generates fresh FAQs)
This makes it easy to keep your knowledge base current without manually finding and deleting individual FAQs.
Best Use Cases for Documents
Document uploads work best for:
- Company profile - About us, mission, values
- Team information - Bios, departments, contact details
- Policies - Return policy, privacy policy, terms of service
- Procedures - How-to guides, processes
- Manuals - Product manuals, user guides
Not Recommended for Products
If you have many products, document uploads may miss items or generate incomplete FAQs. Instead, use the E-commerce Products feature which is designed specifically for product catalogs.
Document Limits
You have monthly and total limits for documents based on your plan. Check your current usage in Settings > Billing.
